The Bergen County Division of Family Guidance provides clinical, residential, educational, correctional, case management, and monitoring services to at-risk children, adolescents, and families, particularly those who are otherwise unable to receive needed services. Regulations for Radon Testing

Instructions:
Detailed instructions will be inside of the test kit. Close all windows and doors in your home and open the test kit in the lowest level of your home, i.e. the basement, for 72 hours. After 72 hours close the test kit and mail it in the pre-paid and pre-addressed envelope. Test results should be available and sent within 1-2 weeks.

Clients involved in landlord-tenant disputes are counseled and informed of their rights and responsibilities under New Jersey laws, local rent control ordinances, state and local property codes and other applicable statutes.

Assistance includes budgeting, housing counseling by HUD certified Housing Counselors, information and referral, rental delinquency counseling, advocacy with landlords/mortgage companies, referrals to legal services, and obtaining affordable housing.

Performs consultations for minor household repairs that help keep residents of the coverage area ages 60 and over, and people with disabilities safe in their own homes. Safety installations such as grab bars, rails, and hand held showers are performed with the landlord’s permission. The program welcomes volunteers familiar with typical household repairs.

Offers interest-free loans to Bergen County homeowners/occupants who are seeking to make necessary repairs/replacements to their homes. The program applies to single-family homes, two-famly homes, and condominiums. Eligible improvements include exterior and interior improvements (heating, plumbing, electrical; roof, leaders, gutters, exterior siding; windows, doors; driveway, sidewalk, steps; other home improvements) but does not include repairs/replacements to attics and basements except for infrastructure (i.e., plumbing, heating, etc.). HIP offers deferred payback loans of up to $17,500 for a single-family home and condominium interiors and up to $25,000 for a two-family home.

Foreclosure Prevention Counseling is available for individuals interested in getting financial assistance for a mortgage. The program assists people who are unable to make their mortgage payments and are at risk of losing their homes through foreclosure, or who are already in the foreclosure process. Those seeking assistance from the Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) or Home Savers Program must receive counseling before applying for these programs. Services may include: – Advocacy – Information about the foreclosure process – Legal timelines – How to contact and negotiate with a lender – Assessment of the homeowner’s financial situation and development of a plan to address homeownership and financial issues.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program is a homeless prevention program which provides assistance to veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to maintain their housing, or to rapidly re-house those who have recently become homeless. The program operates under a “housing first” model that prioritizes housing stability for veterans. For veterans and their families who are eligible for this program, SSVF will provide financial aid with rental and utility security deposits and initial rental payments. Additional support services can range from assistance with transportation; child care; linkage to medical care, behavioral healthcare and recovery services for veterans experiencing PTSD and other effects of combat; and other services to help the veterans and their family re-establish financial stability and self-sufficiency.
